Chinese Cuisine

Orignating from mainland China, this popular cuisine has become a favorite of many other parts of the world such as North America, Australia, Western Europe, and Southern Africa. In more recent times, Chinese cuisine has begun to spread into Eastern Europe and South Asia. Indian Chinese and American Chinese cuisine really exemplify how a cuisine can be suited to fit local dishes.

Most dishes of Chinese cuisine are prepared in bite-sized pieces in order to be able to pick them up. Traditional Chinese cuisine though is prepared in a balanced setting, meaning there will be an equal amount of hot compared to cold items.

Vegetarianism is only practiced by a small group of Chinese though, and most of that small group is buddhist.

Do's and Don'ts of Chinese Takeout

Do's:
  1. Try and focus on reducing the amount of meat in your meal.
  2. Try to focus on ordering more vegetable dishes over meat and even dishes that have a high proportion of vegetables.
  3. Always try to find Cantonese cuisine versus others. Cantonese dishes are fresher and often tend to be lighter.
  4. Always get steamed rice. If you eat more steamed rice, you'll eat less of the other dishes. From a biological perspective, rice is a complex carbohydrate. Not only will this boost your metabolism, it will also be low in calories.
Don'ts:
  1. Try your hardest to avoid ordering deep-fried dishes like Kung Pao Chicken or General Tso's Chicken.
  2. Steamed over fried. Don't get the fried rice.
